Detailed field measurements were made of the degree of surface level change in a blowout, situated in the coastal dune area of Meijendel, The Netherlands. A formula was established to express the erosivity of the wind for the corresponding 34 measurement intervals, over a period of about 3 years. Having established, for 12 wind sectors, the relationship between wind velocity at the nearest standard weather station and at five locations in the blowout, correlations were derived between the deflation rate in the blowout and the wind erosivity using standard hourly wind data. The winter season, although the most windy, is by far the least effective season: the threshold shear wind velocity is disproportionally increased because the moisture content of the surface sand is high. The soil moisture conditions are described as a function of the daily precipitation and evaporation rate. The two most relevant upper and lower threshold shear wind velocities are determined empirically. During the summer season, deflation rate is even higher than indicated by the net surface level change because deflation is partly compensated by deposition of sand transported by rainwash from the blowout margin. With regard to spatial variation in the deflation rate within the blowout, it appears that locations with relatively high velocities coincide with higher deflation rates. However, the spatial variation is commonly less than is expected from the horizontal wind velocity distribution. In view of this the role of wind direction, blowout morphology and algal coverage of the soil in the deflation rate is discussed.  相似文献

A number of mechanisms prevent blowouts in the dunes along the Dutch-coast from growing beyond a certain length. Plants play an important role in the stabilization process. Algae are the first plants to colonize the blowouts. Their filaments are surrounded by mucilaginous sheaths which adhere to the sand grains and increase the resistance of the sand to entrainment by wind. This suggests that artificially induced algal growths might be used in cheap, and ecologically justifiable, stabilization measures.  相似文献

Revealing the geological history of microbial life is very challenging. Microbes rarely are preserved with morphological fidelity, and even when they are, morphology is a poor guide to phylogeny and metabolism. Biological studies of environments considered analogous to those of paleobiological interest on the ancient Earth can inform interpretations and suggest new approaches. This paper reviews recent advances in our understanding of the biological diversity of two environments relevant to Archean paleobiology: those of extreme acidity and temperature (the Mt. Hood and White Island volcanoes), and high salinity (living stromatolites in Shark Bay). The combination of traditional microbial isolation with the use of modern molecular techniques has revealed that the microbial communities in these environments are much more diverse than originally thought. Through the extraction of whole microbial community DNA, enzymatic amplification of evolutionarily conserved genes, and cloning and sequencing of these genes, more specific and informed inferences concerning functional complexity in these extreme environments have now been made. Studies of the modern stromatolites have demonstrated that they have a very diverse range of micoorganisms, and contrary to previous interpretations, cyanobacteria are not the most abundant microbes present. In addition, many of the microorganisms are unique with no known close relatives, and these microorganisms may also possess novel physiologies vital to the integrity and persistence of stromatolites through space and time. Microbes in the volcanoes studied are present ubiquitously and include geochemically significant sulfur- and iron-cycling taxa. The findings from the studies reviewed here suggest that the Archean biota may have been functionally diverse and much more complex than has yet been revealed. The importance of studying modern analogues is stressed in that the biogeochemical processes occurring in these communities leave morphological, mineralogical, lipid and isotopic signals that could be sought in the rock record.  相似文献

The supply of nitrogen and phosphorus in coastal zones through time is reflected in the nutrients’ concentration in the sediment record. Five aquaculture sites in the Philippines were investigated in an effort to establish how long-term changes in land and coastal water use could have led to biogeochemical modifications affecting the coastal ecosystem. Samples from study sites show a narrow concentration range for nitrogen and did not reveal any significant trend through time. In contrast, phosphorus concentrations in most sites start at less than 20 ppm in sediments 30 years and older. The phosphorus value continuously increase in younger sediments, with each site having a different magnitude change as well as timing of when the major increase happened. The uppermost 10 cm, representing the last 15 years in sites with age control, typically show a 2- to 3-fold increase in P load values. Historical increase in nutrient load also coincides with harmful algal bloom events in each area; when effective P input exceeded 130 kg/km2 per year. Lastly, the observed increase may be attributed to several factors including physical attributes of the area, urbanization of coastal zones, but most importantly in the proliferation of aquaculture activities.  相似文献

2007-2012年,黄海连续6a暴发了大规模绿潮。分析了过去5a国内外对黄海绿潮以及绿潮形成种浒苔的研究进展,并总结了对黄海绿潮浒苔溯源的主要观点。结合国内外对绿潮浒苔生物学研究结果,深入分析了大规模黄海绿潮暴发的关键要素(绿潮形成种、近海海水富营养化和其它海洋环境因子)以及生物生态学机制,根据已知的结果推演黄海绿潮全年发生发展过程。据此,认为黄海绿潮大暴发与江苏省近岸海域海水富营养化密切相关,辐射沙洲的浒苔微观繁殖体(孢子、配子及其不同发育程度的显微个体)在绿潮暴发过程中扮演重要角色。  相似文献

伴随着举世瞩目的三峡工程全面竣工,三峡水库于2010年正式进入年水位落差达30 m的正常运行阶段.水库湖沼学可为环境友好型大坝建设和水库可持续管理提供科学依据.本文在三峡成库8 a以来生态系统长期监测与研究的基础上,对三峡水库水环境现状进行了归纳和总结,分析了水环境动态的时空异质性、水库纵向分区与群落组成、垂向分布及藻类水华的成因和动态,并对三峡水库藻类水华预警与生态-水文调控机制展开了论述.最后,本文尝试给出以下两方面的展望:1)大型水库湖沼学观测研究应有长期的策略;2)近期研究应重点关注水华暴发水动力学机制的量化和水华预警模型及生态水力调度平台的耦合.  相似文献

以9期Landsat TM/ETM+影像为数据源,基于K-T变换和归一化植被指数(NDVI),建立了湖泊蓝藻水华信息提取的决策树模型.基于大气顶面反射率图像,选用2005年10月17日太湖图像进行了对比验证,表明决策树模型比单波段阈值法、多波段阈值法(RVI、DVI、NDVI)能够更有效地提取蓝藻水华信息,区分陆生植被、水生植物和水华,省去了水体掩膜的过程.使用太湖2002年10月25日和2011年7月22日图像、巢湖2005年8月12日的图像,验证决策树模型方法和工作流程的有效性.使用多期TM图像确定了阈值的取值范围,其中,亮度、绿度、NDVI的下限值依次为0.191、-0.007、-0.054,湿度下限范围为0.07~0.15;亮度阈值上限范围为0.3~0.7、绿度为0.2~0.5、湿度为0.1~0.3,这些结果可作为湖泊蓝藻水华遥感监测的参考.  相似文献

Predicted changes in future climate necessitate a better understanding of climate impacts on lake biota, and the role of within-lake processes in modifying biotic response. Therefore we examined two climate-related variables (lake-water conductivity and GRIP temperatures) and lake ontogeny (lake age), to determine their influence on lake autotrophic communities in two neighbouring closed-basin lakes from West Greenland spanning the past 8,000 years. Using sedimentary pigments as proxies for lake autotrophic communities, we used synchrony and variance partitioning analyses (VPA) to test three specific hypotheses (a) that lake primary production would increase with lake age, (b) that climate would be the dominant process controlling autotrophic communities in these pristine lakes and (c) that the response of autotrophs to conductivity and temperature would vary depending upon the age of the lake. The results supported our first hypothesis, showing that lakes changed significantly with age, exhibiting an increase and decline in production in the first millennium of their existence, followed by a steady increase in production and increasingly frequent abrupt switches between mixed and meromictic states. The highly synchronous detrended response (r = 0.769) of lake autotrophs in the two study lakes, supported our hypothesis that climate was the dominant factor controlling lake autotrophs. However, VPA revealed that our climate-related variables (temperature and conductivity) explained only small amounts of variance alone (<12.9%) because covariance among them hindered efficient partitioning. In support of our third hypothesis, autotrophs responded significantly to temperature and conductivity in interaction with lake age (>50% variance explained) and with each other (>28% variance explained), such that autotrophic response changed as lakes aged. In spite of this, lakes sometimes responded independently, as a result of differences in the relative proportion of benthic to pelagic production and because of differences in lake morphometry. Together these results show that long-term control of lake autotrophs by climate and lake age is modified on shorter timescales by non-linear responses related to within-lake processes, and by the interaction of different climate variables with each other and with lake age.  相似文献

三峡水库汛末蓄水后易出现支流回水区磷累积现象,并在冬季末期常出现硅藻水华现象.为研究汛末蓄水的磷积累与冬季末期硅藻水华的相互关系,分析2013年1 3月三峡澎溪河高阳平湖库湾水体中碱性磷酸酶活性、磷形态的转化和藻类生长的协同过程.结果表明,总碱性磷酸酶活性(TAPA)及其最大反应速率(Vmax)、特异性碱性磷酸酶活性(PAPA/Chl.a)及PAPA与TAPA的比值(PAPA/TAPA)随着时间推移总体呈先增加后减小而后再增加减小的双峰趋势,分别在2月中旬和3月中旬达到峰值.根据冬季末期水华暴发程的特点将其分为Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ、Ⅳ4个阶段.Ⅰ阶段为诱导期,水体活性磷主要来自藻类碱性磷酸酶分解的有机磷,藻类对磷过度摄取.Ⅱ阶段为过渡期,温度低,水体碱性磷酸酶活性相对较低.Ⅲ阶段为水华时期,水中碱性磷酸酶主要来源于细菌,叶绿素a浓度达到最大,溶解态反应性磷浓度达到最低;Ⅳ阶段为水华末期,水体叶绿素a浓度逐渐下降,溶解态反应性磷浓度回升,水中碱性磷酸酶主要来源于细菌.  相似文献
